Message Board Moderation
More and more companies are using message boards to communicate and interact with their customer. Moderation of these communities requires a completely different set of skills than other forms of moderation service. The difference with message boards and forums is temporal. With a discussion board or message boards, conversations take place over hours, days, or even months. Message board moderators are to incorporate and assess the unequal conversations, which often occur under the same topic.
It is critical to note that these message boards, discussion boards, and forums alike rely on community participation to succeed and it is the skill of moderators to keep the community active while keeping the 'spam and bullies out'. Quality individuals that really wish to participate in these communities may be put off by the content or these unruly participants and never return to the community.
