This is for ANYONE who doesnt already know how to manage a small collection of paks at anytime,mostly because processor keeps asking me stuff that i feel i dont want to answer ,so here goes:
First off:we have pak0.pak,pak1.pak,and pak2.pak(all stock quake2 paks,do NOT EVER touch these paks,or your doomed to no quake for the rest of your life.
Second:say for example,you download a pak named pak3.pak and pak4.pak.pak3 will instantly overwrite anything in pak0,1,or 2;and pak4 will overwrite pak3.The higher the number of the pak,is the pak that will be used first,anything not in that pak that doesnt overwrite anything in 0,1,or 2,will be viewed in lower paks that overwrite images from pak0,1,or 2.So if pak3 has a new conback.png image(console background) and has a new conchars set(console characters),but pak4 also has just a conback.png,then pak4.pak's conback will be used,as 4 is higher # then 3.However,pak3.pak's conchars will be used because it overwrites pak0.pak's original conchars and pak4 doesnt have any to overwrite.
Last but not least:ALL paks go into baseq2,now,if you want to use different paks for different mods,i have a pak in my opentdm mod folder,and tourney folder,becuz these paks were built for 1v1/TDM games,and then i have the rest of my paks in baseq2,where any mod that ISN'T opentdm or tourney,will use these paks.
